LIBERTY Steel Group (United Kingdom) - We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as an Engineering Team Leader (Mechanical) at our Thrybergh manufacturing site in Rotherham.

The role will be to lead and provide the delivery of mechanical maintenance ensuring that plant operational targets, product quality, customer service and health & safety objectives are met. The role will also include directing activities of other members of multi-disciplined teams which undertake maintenance within the manufacturing unit,

As Engineering Team Leader, you will be required to:

  • Be responsible for ensuring high standards of health & safety at all times, motivating team members to continuously improve safety standards and practice. This will include developing safe working practices, delivering safety briefings and undertaking routine auditing to assure that safety standards are being upheld, (STOP / Safety Conversation process).
  • Manage and deliver the mechanical maintenance, which is undertaken on a shift-by-shift basis, responding to breakdowns, delivering planned work schedules and ensuring all aspects of mechanical maintenance are delivered safely and professionally in order to ensure that departmental objectives and targets are achieved. This will include investigating and diagnosing faults, arranging any relevant spares, tools and materials, hands on management of the successful delivery of the work and full reporting of the work carried out on the company’s electronic maintenance management system, (INFOR).
  • Initiate and develop mechanical process improvements which could reduce delays, increase reliability and production availability and work with Shift and Day Management teams to deliver these.
  • Provide comprehensive and consistent communication with Shift Engineering and Management teams in order to manage emerging plant problems, identify work schedule priorities and deploy appropriate resources to successfully complete tasks as they arise. This is likely to include verbal and written communication using mobile phones, radios, tannoy systems and e-mail.
  • Assist the Shift Engineering management team in all aspects of management which is required in a modern and busy engineering environment including receiving and collating maintenance requests, management of contract resource employed across the department, administration of logistics and deliveries made into the engineering department, ensuring all company standards are delivered and maintained, ensuring that levels of housekeeping and organisation of work areas are at acceptable levels and owned by individuals
  • Ensure team resources are effectively organised, deployed and monitored, requesting, and organising external resources as appropriate, to achieve plant targets and objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and review appropriate training plans to ensure individual optimum performance.
  • Monitor team members’ performance against agreed job roles (e.g.Technician Appendix IV)

What we are looking for:

In addition to the responsibilities associated with being an operating, “Hands-On” member of the team the Mechanical Team Leader will need experience in:

  • Plant inspections, including condition monitoring and TPM techniques, to an agreed frequency, these will determine future maintenance requirements. 
  • Developing and implementing maintenance routines for all equipment.
  • Planning for specific plant needs which have been defined by Day Management, including labour and materials requirements.
  • Ensuring the availability of materials and spares for items of plant within their area of responsibility and identifying and organising “Critical Spares”.
  • Co-ordinating with and, where required, supervising the activities of other services and contractors including the undertaking of mechanical isolations and participation in the administration of the companies Permit Systems, danger notices and all other relevant safe working procedures.
  • Attending management meetings and preparing reports to the requirements of the department.
