KUKA (Germany) - Press Release: The new KR IONTEC Ultra is both sleek and strong: with high performance and a payload capacity of up to 120 kg, it is ideally suited for handling and welding applications.
Thanks to its compact design, the KR IONTEC Ultra navigates efficiently, even in tight workspaces. This allows customers to implement narrow automation cells using the slim robot, ultimately reducing costs by saving space. In addition to its small footprint, the robot offers exceptional performance, helping minimize cycle times.
Space- and Maintenance-Efficient
The KR IONTEC Ultra integrates seamlessly into the KR IONTEC family, which stands out for its low maintenance requirements. An oil change is only needed every 20,000 operating hours, and the central hand concept eliminates the need for belts. Additionally, the robot requires few spare parts.
The KR IONTEC Ultra excels in handling, particularly in the battery sector, and in spot welding with lightweight welding guns. With its 120 kg payload capacity, it can also handle heavy battery cells and modules for electromobility applications. Moreover, its slim design makes it ideal for compact welding cells—a feature highly sought after, especially by automotive industry suppliers.
The Ideal Robot for a Cost-Effective Entry into Automation
Within KUKA’s portfolio, the KR IONTEC Ultra stands out between the KR IONTEC and KR QUANTEC product families. With a smaller footprint than the KR QUANTEC, yet high performance, it serves as a cost-effective entry-level solution for automation.
"The KR IONTEC Ultra can be quickly and intuitively integrated into existing production environments," says Michael Laub, Platform Product Manager for Medium Payload and Palletizing Robots at KUKA.
Since the robot supports integration with the KUKA.PLC mxAutomation interface, users can program and operate it within their usual control environment. As a result, this compact, powerful, and economical robot can quickly contribute to handling and spot welding applications using lightweight welding guns.
The KR IONTEC Ultra with a 120 kg payload and a reach of 2,700 mm is now available for order, with three additional model variants set to launch in summer this year.
