Stellantis Unveils STLA AutoDrive: The New Autonomous Technology That Will Revolutionize Driving Comfort

Stellantis (Netherlands) - Stellantis N.V. has unveiled STLA AutoDrive 1.0, an innovative in-house developed autonomous driving system that promises to transform the driving experience. This technology, offering "Hands-Free and Eyes-Off" functionality (SAE Level 3), marks a significant milestone in Stellantis' technological strategy, alongside STLA Brain and STLA Smart Cockpit, and aims to enhance vehicle intelligence, automation, and the driver experience.

Technology That Reduces Driver Workload

STLA AutoDrive enables automated driving at speeds of up to 60 km/h, making it ideal for congested traffic situations where the driver can relax and recover valuable time. This technology is particularly useful in urban areas, where daily commutes in traffic can be tiring and time-consuming. With STLA AutoDrive, drivers can engage in non-driving tasks such as watching movies, replying to emails, or simply relaxing while the system manages the vehicle’s driving.

Ned Curic, Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Stellantis, said: "Helping drivers make the best use of their time is one of our main priorities. STLA AutoDrive not only makes driving easier but also transforms time behind the wheel into a more efficient and enjoyable experience."

Simple and Intuitive System

The operation of STLA AutoDrive is simple and intuitive. When traffic and environmental conditions are suitable, the driver receives a notification that the system is available. Once activated with a physical button, STLA AutoDrive takes full control of the vehicle, automatically adjusting speed, steering, and braking based on traffic flow and safe distances.

Stellantis has equipped the system with an advanced network of sensors that constantly monitor the vehicle's surroundings, ensuring reliable and accurate operation even in low visibility or adverse weather conditions. An automated sensor-cleaning system keeps the essential components clean, ensuring continuous and optimal performance.

Stress-Free Driving Technology

STLA AutoDrive is designed to react quickly and naturally, ensuring smooth and predictable driving. The system is capable of maintaining safe following distances and adjusting to dynamic traffic situations, providing a calm and stress-free driving experience.

At higher speeds, the system also offers Adaptive Cruise Control and lane-centering functions in Level 2 (hands-on) and Level 2+ (hands-off, eyes-on) modes, further facilitating driving on highways or fast lanes.

An Evolving Platform for the Future

STLA AutoDrive has been designed on a scalable architecture, meaning it can be deployed across Stellantis’ various brand vehicles in global markets. Additionally, the system is cloud-connected, enabling continuous improvements through over-the-air updates and real-time adjustments to optimize performance.

This system complies with local regulations in the markets where it is implemented and requires the driver to remain seated with their seatbelt on, ready to take control when prompted. STLA AutoDrive also adheres to regional laws regarding driver behavior, including restrictions on phone usage.

The Future of Autonomous Driving

Stellantis views STLA AutoDrive as a constantly evolving platform. The future may bring advancements that allow hands-free and eyes-off operation at higher speeds (up to 95 km/h), as well as enhanced off-road automation for select models.

With a focus on safety, flexibility, and long-term adaptability, STLA AutoDrive represents a significant step forward for Stellantis towards a more intelligent, comfortable, and intuitive driving experience.
