Hyundai Motor Group and Suprema Collaborate to Advance AI-Driven Robot-Friendly Building Security Solutions

Hyundai Motor Group (South Korea) - Press Release: Hyundai Motor Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Suprema in Goyang, South Korea, to establish a total security solution based on robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). This collaboration aims to expand Robotics LAB’s robot-friendly building business model by integrating access control and physical security solutions, in partnership with Suprema, South Korea’s leading supplier of biometric access control systems.

Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics LAB will provide unified services by providing facial recognition technology for both robots and access systems. They plan to enhance services by utilizing each party’s expertise in integrating facial recognition technology with both robots and infrastructure, first developed last year at Korea’s first commercial robot-friendly building ‘Factorial Seongsu’ in collaboration with Suprema.

“Access control serves a critical function in developing intelligent robot-friendly spaces. Through integration with access control solutions, we will propose a new industry standard in which robots with humans overcome infrastructural issues and take advantage of greater mobility and seamless services,” said Dong Jin Hyun, Hyundai Motor Group Vice President and Head of Robotics LAB. “We aim to expand offerings beyond the existing static form factors within the physical security industry and create new business opportunities through Robotics LAB’s RTS (Robotics Total Solution) model.”

Building on this vision, the collaboration is centered around the shared goal of developing RTS and pioneering new security solutions. By leveraging the Robotics LAB’s advanced robotics technology of Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics LAB and Suprema’s expertise in biometric access control solutions, the partnership aims to integrate both parties’ cutting-edge hardware, software, and AI technologies. This integration is expected to transcend the limitations of existing physical security systems, paving the way for innovative opportunities in the industry.

“This partnership marks a significant milestone as we open a new era of unmanned security services that integrate AI and robotics,” said Hanchul Kim, CEO of Suprema Inc. “We plan to expand its portfolio with Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB to develop an AI-driven robot-friendly building security system. This system will seamlessly integrate cloud technology, robotics, AI, various sensors, and on-site response solutions. Furthermore, we aim to establish ourselves as a leading provider of integrated security platforms featuring AI-driven automation, including advanced technologies such as AI drones and acoustic detection systems.”

Moreover, the partnership will explore opportunities with the artificial intelligence of things (AIoT), which is the integration of AI with the internet of things (IoT). This integration will advance autonomous driving capabilities for robots, enhancing services such as food and beverage delivery and package delivery within robot-friendly building sites.

The core of this collaboration is to implement various autonomous robot services by developing technologies that integrate robots with infrastructure in robot-friendly buildings. Notably, a successful deployment has already been achieved last year, integrating 53 facial recognition devices and a fleet of service robots.

Suprema will focus on minimizing the development period required for expanding the robot operating range and integrating with infrastructure using Suprema’s access application programming interface (API), eliminating the need for direct integration with each manufacturer for infrastructure like speed gates, automatic doors, and elevators necessary for autonomous driving. Additionally, both parties will develop new mobility-enabled solutions for the physical security industry and propose new standards and certifications, thereby setting a new benchmark for the industry.

Both parties plan to closely collaborate to implement and standardize a robotics-based integrated security solution through this joint development.
