For connection via soldered cables - Electrolytic capacitors from FTCAP with solder lugs: reliable and flexible

FTCAP GmbH (Germany) - Aluminium electrolytic capacitors with solder lugs are needed in applications where the capacitor is separate from the electronic circuitry and cannot be mounted directly on the printed circuit board. In this case, the solder lugs allow flexible connection by means of a soldered cable. FTCAP (part of the Mersen Group) offers different series with numerous solder lug variations in this product area. The fully welded design increases the life of the capacitors.

“There are two basic types of solder lugs or solder pins: with closed and open eyes”, explains André Tausche, Managing Director of FTCAP. “The difference is that in the second version the cable can be fed through the eye. But we also offer numerous variations within these two categories. This allows us to offer customers maximum flexibility in connecting the cable.” In addition to the extensive product range, solder lug capacitors from FTCAP feature a fully welded design: The life of these capacitors is much longer than that of riveted models.

FTCAP electrolytic capacitors with solder lugs provide reliable solutions with high energy density, which in turn allows high discharge currents. Potential areas of application for solder lug capacitors include switch-mode power supplies, computers, industrial electronics, and drive systems. In welding machines, solder lug connections allow the fast and flexible configuration of custom capacitor banks of any size that can supply the required high current pulses. Another use is in IPL (intense pulsed light) devices: The capacitors are installed in the handles of mobile consumer devices, while the PCB is on top – the distance is bridged by a cable.

The standard capacities of solder lug capacitors range from 56 to 330,000 µF at voltages of 16 to 500 volts. The GS series from FTCAP provides a solution with solder pins based on DIN requirements. As with all FTCAP capacitors, the production team can respond flexibly to individual customer requirements by adapting these capacitors to include custom connection variants.

About FTCAP:

FTCAP Fischer und Tausche Capacitors has more than 70 years of experience in the development and production of capacitors used in diverse industries. The products include both film and electrolytic capacitors and FTCAP is one of the few companies to still manufacture all of its capacitors in Germany. In addition to standard capacitors in small and medium-sized quantities, the Husum-based manufacturer also offers special custom-made products for demanding applications: The company’s experts work in close cooperation with the customer to implement complex custom solutions.

Since 2018 FTCAP belongs to the Mersen Group. The merger of the two enterprises will result in substantial growth potentials for both parties. The explicit goal is to offer innovative modules, in which FTCAP capacitors are optimised for use with busbars and heat sinks from Mersen.
