Epson Partners with SUSS to Integrate PrecisionCore Printhead Technology

Epson (Japan) - Press Release: Epson Partners with SUSS to Integrate PrecisionCore Printhead Technology for Functional Materials Printing.

Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson), a leader in advanced printhead solutions, announces its collaboration with SUSS MicroTec SE (SUSS), a leading manufacturer of system and process solutions for the semiconductor and printed electronics industries. As part of this partnership, SUSS will adopt Epson’s PrecisionCore printhead technology (I3200 series) in its flagship LP50 desktop R&D printer. This development aims to enhance research and development capabilities in inkjet process, application, and material innovations.

A key installation will take place at Epson Europe B.V. Marly Branch, located in Marly, Switzerland. The Marly branch has been designed as a collaborative facility, inviting industry players to participate in joint testing with Epson experts.

The decision to utilize Epson’s technology is driven by its exceptional print quality, enabled by PrecisionCore technology, which allows testing of up to eight inks simultaneously within a single printhead. Additionally, the printhead offers high chemical compatibility, enabling researchers to efficiently maximize fluid development and inkjet printing processes.

Widely recognized for its innovative design and versatility, the LP50 printer will significantly benefit from the integration of Epson’s cutting-edge PrecisionCore printhead technology, ensuring superior inkjet printing performance. The LP50 is essential for researchers involved in evaluating and developing inkjet materials used in a variety of applications within the electronics industry.

Alongside this technological upgrade, SUSS and Epson will collaborate to introduce complete "application kits" featuring processes and materials developed and tested at Epson’s inkjet innovation lab in Japan. This initiative highlights both companies' commitment to advancing the printed electronics industry through innovative solutions.

The updated version of the LP50, incorporating Epson’s PrecisionCore printhead technology, is set to launch in the first half of 2025. Current LP50 users will have the opportunity to upgrade their equipment to Epson’s technology by acquiring a print unit upgrade.

"The collaboration with Epson represents a significant advancement in our R&D efforts," says Robert Wanninger, Senior Vice President at SUSS. "The integration of Epson’s PrecisionCore printhead technology into our LP50 will not only enhance our capabilities but also provide our customers with cutting-edge tools to push the boundaries of printed electronics. Together, we are committed to fostering innovation and excellence in this evolving market."

"By partnering with SUSS, we are extending the reach of our PrecisionCore technology to functional materials printing beyond color, such as printed electronics, where innovation is key," says Shunya Fukuda, Chief Operating Officer of Epson’s IJS Operations Division. "Our proprietary printhead technology will power the SUSS LP50 to deliver unprecedented performance and reliability, ultimately supporting the development of next-generation inkjet applications."

The collaboration between SUSS and Epson marks a significant step forward in the evolution of printed electronics and demonstrates both companies' commitment to delivering superior solutions to the industry.
