Cognex Introduces Next-Generation Real Time Monitoring to Optimize Industry Processes
Cognex Corporation (USA) - Cognex Corporation announced the Cognex Explorer™ Real Time Monitoring (RTM), a DataMan® barcode reader performance-monitoring system. By incorporating a scalable architecture, a web-based performance statistics interface, and world-class Cognex vision technology, Cognex Explorer RTM empowers facility managers with data that removes system defects and optimizes processes. Cognex Explorer RTM trends read rates, evaluates images from packages that were not read, and classifies those images to help improve equipment efficiency. Cognex Explorer RTM is designed to leverage DataMan’s image-based barcode reading capabilities in industries such as logistics, automotive, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage.

“The new Cognex Explorer Real Time Monitoring system leverages Cognex vision technology to help DataMan barcode readers deliver the high-quality performance that our customers demand. RTM was created for one simple reason: to maximize the performance feedback benefits of image-based barcode readers by leveraging Cognex vision technology to automatically identify the root causes of process errors within a facility,” said Carl Gerst, Vice President and Business Unit Manager, ID Products. “Our customers have been looking for a data-driven approach to pinpoint deficiencies in their applications. By providing powerful and flexible vision tools to analyze packages that were not read due to process errors, as well as the time-based trending of read rates, we add a whole new level of value to our scan points.”

Cognex Explorer RTM is a server-based product that connects to a network of DataMan readers and regularly pulls read rate information as well as images from packages. When a process error results in a package with an unread barcode, images are sent to RTM, which automatically evaluates and categorizes each image with terms such as “packages with no label present” or “poorly printed labels,” and stores them in a database. The data is then accessible for future viewing through any device with a web browser.

Cognex Explorer RTM helps facility managers to immediately analyze and share their system performance, allowing them to continually improve their processes.
