Bizerba Increases Revenue and is Well Equipped for 2020

Bizerba (Germany) - Bizerba, one of the leading providers of hardware and software solutions in the field of weighing, slicing and labeling technology, generated EUR 701 million in sales worldwide in the fiscal year 2019. The family-owned company from Balingen, Germany was thus able to see a 4% increase in revenue as compared to the same period in the previous year.

Revenue in the previous fiscal year was based traditionally on a strong home market. With 30% of sales overall, Germany is still the most important market for Bizerba. 47% of sales were generated in other European countries, representing yet another increase as compared to 2018. The Americas region remains at a stable level at 21%.

Revenue distribution in the various industry segments in 2019 remains unchanged. The industry segments Industry, Service and Labels & Consumables reported significant growth. The staff numbers saw an increase to 4,171 employees, of which 2,192 hold positions outside of Germany.

“The positive change in revenue in 2019 is confirmation for us that our strategy and our approach are working”, said Andreas Kraut, CEO and himself a shareholder of Bizerba. “We will follow up with new solutions in the area of software and hardware and will offer innovative approaches to our customers, which will revolutionize the industries.”

The main drivers of success are the core areas weighing, slicing and labeling technology. However, the Business Services division also contributed a large share, as did the various financing offers that the company provides. Bizerba strengthened its locations with investments in the amount of EUR 19.6 million.

Investing in the future:

2019 saw the start of construction on the new, state-of-the-art logistics center for the spare parts logistics at the company’s headquarters and main service location in Balingen. The center is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. The logistics center will include a pallet and a small parts warehouse that will feature semi-automatic order picking. It is designed for approximately 45 employees and about 1000 packages per day.

Moreover, at the Balingen location, some initial areas have been upgraded based on the latest findings for modern office worlds, designed to optimally support employees in their day-to-day work. In 2020, upgrading efforts will continue in other areas.

In addition to investing in the locations, Bizerba is also continuing to invest strongly in digitalization. Enhancements and upgrades to the IT infrastructure, plus investments in new software tools represent an ideal basis for the next steps in digitalization at Bizerba.

Software is becoming a central element in the solutions that we offer and will continue to be expanded as one of the most significant of Bizerba’s industry segments.

Investments in state-of-the-art infrastructure were also made in the industry segment Labels & Consumables. The coaters that were purchased in 2019 have the capability to create ideal linerless labels for the new Bizerba solutions.

2020 started at previous year level:

Revenue development for the first quarter of 2020 is equivalent to that of the previous year. “Several years ago, Bizerba had already taken early initial steps to develop innovative solutions. This development is receiving a real push forward as a result of the current situation, for example remote service is seeing increased demand from our customers at this time”, said Andreas Kraut.

New supermarket solutions:

New in the portfolio is Supersmart powered by Bizerba, an innovative solution for supermarkets. This innovative solution significantly simplifies the shopping experience, and is also helping supermarkets comply with the newly applicable hygiene regulations. The solution was developed as a collaborative effort with the Israeli startup Supersmart and is being distributed by Bizerba worldwide. Initial solutions have already been installed in Turkey and in the Czech Republic.

The new generation of K3 retail scales is already in the starting blocks for 2020. Highly networking capable, this retail scale is the ideal companion for use in the modern supermarket with its innovative multi-touch display for easy operation and a modular design.

With the newly developed packaging machines, especially designed for retail, large supermarkets are now able to package, weigh and label small quantities in a single work step – and are ideal, for example, for linking to an online shop.

Larger labels with more information and less waste:

With the GLM-levo F-Wrap, Bizerba will now be offering a new price labeling system for the food industry as of 2020. In connection with the “GlueFreeZone” linerless labels, this labeling system allows more information about the product to be printed on the label, while reducing waste at the same time, because the linerless labels do not require the backing paper – the so-called liner. Using the “GlueFreeZone” linerless labels goes easy on the knives in the device, there are less problems with sticky adhesive and as such fewer downtimes.
